FAMILY & LIFESTYLE PHOTOGRAPHY
I'd love to hear any questions you may have
Below are a range of questions and answers regarding all my sessions that I offer and the experience you will receive.
If you have any further questions please do send me an enquiry regarding a session you'd be interested in, or email me on juniperphotography@hotmail.com
What types of photography services do you offer?
Juniper Photography is a Family photographer focusing on more documentary than posed. My sessions capture connections, meaningful moments and with the help of games we create stunning visual stories.
Sessions include: Family, Newborn, Maternity and Mini Sessions which can be a taster of a full session with the added bonus of stunning backgrounds.
How do I book a photography session with you?
Booking a photography session is easy. Simply reach out to me through the contact buttons on the website. This will send you through to my enquiry form. There is no finalised booking at this stage, it just starts a conversation between us to find you the best session.
Or you can email me via juniperphotography@hotmail.com.
How long does a typical photo session last?
I aim to provide ample time to capture all the important moments and ensure you feel relaxed and comfortable throughout the session.
Family sessions are usually 1 hour.
Bump sessions are usually 1 hour.
Newborn sessions can be 1 to 3 hours (to allow for feeding and soothing).
Mini sessions are usually 20 minutes.
Can I have more people than my immediate family in the photo shoot?
Of course, I love to see multiple generations in one photo. Parents, Grandparents, Children, Cousins, Siblings of all ages, Aunts and Uncles. But don't forget, it's always nice to have photoshoots of just your immediate family from time to time. That's the beauty of my photoshoots, they are not just for special occasions, they are for any stage of your life.
My sessions are a time to help you get those photos you tend to take the most on your phones, but you often find that they don't come out the way you want them to. One person always has their eyes closed or just not there/looking. I get those photos capturing you as you are, the candid shots while you cuddle up as a family. The genuine laughter and playtime, because at the end of the day, we all know those are the favourite photos we always look back on.
Can we choose the location for our photo shoot?
Mini: Sadly mini sessions are set locations on set times of the year. This is because the location has been carefully curated and researched to bring you the most amazing backgrounds and beautiful experiences we can offer at that set time of year, such as lavender fields and bluebells.
Newborn: Newborn sessions are almost always taken at your home, or on the odd (warm) occasion outdoors. Whilst I do not have a studio, I can bring the studio to you.
Family/Bump/Baby: I am open to going to the new areas, however I’d like to encourage you to consider one of my tried and tested photoshoot locations.
I've personally scouted and prepped this location, ensuring it's perfect for relaxed family photoshoots with beautiful textures and just-right lighting. My locations are a little more quiet, allowing your family's connections to shine through without visual distractions. Everything is already checked out like, access and permission to shoot plus I know that there won’t be other events on.
It’s important to me that you have the most relaxed time possible and in my experience it is usually best to opt for a more deliberate and secluded spot that will provide the best light quality and variation for your final gallery.
Let me know your ideas and we can work together to get the best out of your session possible.
Do you go to areas that we have to pay to get into?
I am happy to go to places such as Westernbirt Arboretum. There will be an additional cost for me to enter and you'll need to pay for your own entry. I also have a payment of £1 a mile over 10miles from my home.
So for example westernbirt is 21 miles from my home so I would add an additional £11 to the booking for travel, plus the entry fee.
Do you have a travel charge?
I have a payment of £1 a mile over 10miles from my home.
So for example if the location you have requested is 21 miles from my home, I would add an additional £11 to the booking for travel, plus any entry fee.
What is the difference between a mini session and your hour session?
Hour sessions are often more relaxed as it can often take 20 minutes to really get to know a family. This is usually which is when the real magic shines!
Mini sessions are a great way of stepping into the world of photography, to meet hopefully your family photographer, and to get an updated photo of the family for a fraction of the cost.
How often do you run mini sessions
I try to run mini sessions once a month, and I share the details on socials when I know the next months sessions.
Do you get any extras in the mini sessions?
Christmas mini sessions include photo cards to send your family.
Do you have a studio?
Sadly, I do not own a studio, nearly all my sessions are outdoor sessions or at your own home.
If you are booking onto a newborn session however, I do have the second best thing which is a pop-up studio. This means that I'm able to bring the studio feel directly to your home. I set up within the lightest area in your house which is usually the kitchen or the living room. It's not very big so is only possible to use during newborn sessions.
What trimester would you suggest having a bump photoshoot?
Bump photos are best taken when you are around 28 to 35 weeks pregnant, when you’re not yet feeling too tired or uncomfortable, and have a gorgeous curve to your bump. However, if you are later than this, please do not worry, we just have to take it slow and have little breaks throughout the session if needed.
I'd say 30 weeks is the aim and we can go from there. I had quite a small bump at 30 weeks, so it's always different for each person and their preference.
Do you send me any information before our session?
Yes, I send a prep guide which has been created to help you get ready for your session. It will include information about what to bring with you and also outfit tips. It also includes a lot of information on what happens after the session but do see below for any questions you may have.
What do I wear?
I send a prep guide before your session but I always find Pinterest to be a useful place to start. Colours that I feel go really well with outdoor sessions are beige rust, tan, denim, dark green, dark blue. Think forrest colours, as the tone of my edits tend to on the warmer side.
You can have patterned outfits but try to keep them to a minimum and only on one person. You also want to make sure all the outfits work well together, so try to take a photo of them laid out with all the accessories and shoes etc, and send me a photo! If you are doing a home session, no need to think about shoes.
Can I bring a pet?
Dogs are always welcome but I do need to be pre-warned as it can create an additional layer to your shoot. If your pet needs to stay on the lead or cannot do certain things (for medical or other reasons) please do let me know before the session. Some people in the past have had someone come with them to look after the dog as you have your photos taken if you only want them in a few pictures.
What happens if the weather is unfavourable on the day of an outdoor shoot?
If the session is an outdoor session, and the weather doesn't cooperate on the day, we can discuss alternatives such as rescheduling the session or finding an indoor location. We want to ensure the best possible outcome for your photos, and we're flexible in adapting to unforeseen circumstances. I usually keep an eye on the weather in the week coming up to meeting, and make a final decision if it's starting to look rainy the night before. By this point we might have started talking about an additional date but I would rather stay with the main date as much as possible as it can be difficult to block up so much time for one session.
Mini sessions will always have a rainy day back up date that I ask you to be free on in addition to your original booking.
Do you have public liability insurance?
Yes, I do. If you need more information let me know.
How long does it take to receive the final edited photos?
Once our session is completed, I will begin the editing process which typically takes me 4 weeks. The gallery is always fully edited so that you can pick the photos that you love. If you wish to purchase any more photos, there is an opportunity to do this when you have the gallery.
Can I buy more images than wants included?
I offer individual digitals as well as three packages which will hopefully help you get the most out of your booking.
Individual downloads at £10 each
Package 1: 8x digital downloads for £70
Package 2: ALL digitals for £200
Package 3: ALL digitals, plus 3x "12x8" prints and 20x "6x4" prints for £300
You can choose your photos over 4 weeks while your gallery remains open, in case you wish to purchase any prints for your home via the affiliated photography printing lab connected to the gallery.
You can upgrade from Package 1 to Package 2 or 3 at any time and the £70 will be credit towards the larger package.
Can I have the raw images?
Sadly, I am unable to provide raw images.
Your gallery will be saved as jpeg. If you have a need for a specific size or dimension of image for print please do let me know and I can resave where possible.
