"Wow what a lady and what and photographer. Harriet was amazing with my little family. She was easy going with my three year old and even got in to collecting rocks with him on the beach in between taking photos to make him feel comfortable around her. Harriet was very accommodating to work around times good for us. She is approachable and nothing was a silly questions. If you’re like me and hate having your photo taken, Harriet made it easy. She asked us to play simple games and it didn’t even feel like she was there. My family and I can’t wait to have new photos in a few years. "Harriet is amazing. We have a 6 year old who can be really anxious about meeting new people, and a 1 year old who is only motivated by snacks. Harriet spoke to me beforehand asking about things which make my kids laugh, and it was so clear she'd taken everything on board. From the second she arrived, she became best friends with my 6 year old, and he didnt feel anxious or uncomfortable once (in fact he's asked if she can come over for tea and play Lego with him!). Despite my 1 year old being in a foul mood, she somehow worked some magic and got some beautiful shots of him smiling and giggling. My partner and I always feel awkward in front of a camera, but in truth, it didn't even feel like the camera was there. She captured the essence of what our family is and made us feel so comfortable. "Today Harriet came to my home and took some pictures of me and my son- to say this is out of my comfort zone is an understatement and I’ll be honest i was giving it as a gift so I wouldn’t haven't booked myself but one of the best gifts I’ve received. "I met Harriet in 2021, after hearing she was a great photographer to go to, especially if you wanted natural-looking family photos, and having seen some of her work which seemed to capture beautiful and intimate moments between families so perfectly. My son was 2 years old and not able to sit still, so I was unsure how this would work.
On top of this, I really do not like having my photo taken, even by friends or family or myself, so I was beyond nervous when booking the mini session, imagining a stranger pointing a camera at me. Harriet was really relaxed and easy to talk to over email/instagram, which made it easier. She helped me choose a location for the session, and she even brought a variety of clothing for me to try on and wear for the shoot, which was amazing. The clothes were lovely fabrics and textures and made me feel so good (I didn’t really have anything I loved at home to wear as hadn’t been shopping since having the baby!)
It was a really hot day and Harriet chatted as we walked, she got us to spend some time just playing with our boy and walking together, which settled our nerves, and she had us laughing and relaxed by the time she was taking photos. She even offered to get some special snaps of me breastfeeding, and got a few lovely discreet photos, which I especially treasure 3 years later now my breastfeeding journey is over.
Harriet kept in touch after the session, sending me sneaky previews of her editing our photographs on her laptop - I still remember how happy I was seeing those first photos of our little family. She got some brilliant photos and I couldn’t be happier with the photos she got of us that day. I worried I wouldn’t like any of them, but in fact I loved so many of them I couldn’t choose which to frame!
Alongside her relaxed nature, quick humour and incredible skills as a photographer, I soon learnt she was also one of the kindest people I know. She heard about a lady I was helping who was arriving to the UK from Ukraine for refuge. This friend was heavily pregnant and arrived with very few possessions due to the circumstances she was in. Harriet reached out to me and insisted on offering her an entire beach photography session completely free of charge, to give this friend some memories and photographs to keep forever of her beautiful bump, something positive to gift her at a time in her life which must have been immensely stressful. Along with this, Harriet arranged a big collection of baby clothes from her friends to help women who had come to the UK for refuge and had babies or were pregnant. I was so surprised by Harriet’s generosity, she was a busy person at the time and didn’t have a child herself and yet gave up several hours to help someone she had never even met.
I imagine it is uncommon to keep in touch with someone you go to for a photoshoot, but over the years we have continued to chat here and there, and I am truly glad to have met her and cannot wait to book in another session one day soon with our newest baby/toddler too!
